Mumbai: Education minister Vinod Tawde asked the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) on Tuesday to provide complete audit report of all the 14 government hospitals by Thursday which will be including requirement of the security guards, CCTV cameras and walkie-talkies in each hospital. Further, the minister also criticised the deans for providing incomplete security audit report which has led to delay in taking definite actions. This has come in the wake of providing security to the resident doctors as the cases of assault on the doctors have increased.
Out of 14 government hospitals, three civic hospitals including KEM, Nair and Sion hospital didn’t provide the audit report to the DMER. However, out of the remaining 11 hospitals, only JJ and BJ hospital had provided complete audit reports along with requirement of security guards and CCTVs. Meanwhile, the rest of these colleges have only provided requirements of security guards. The minister has asked the deans to include the details in a specific format which will be covering all the aspects including current availability of security guards, CCTVs and walkie-talkies in each hospital, following which, a decision will be taken on the recruitment of bouncers and installation of CCTVs and walkie-talkies.
Dr Sagar Mundada, president of Central Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD), said, “The doctors’ life is at constant stake owing to the surging assault cases and therefore the need for strengthening of security has risen.”
