Mumbai : While the BMC administration came up with the proposal to divert dumping waste from Gorai dumping ground to Mulund, Deonar and Kanjurmarg, corporators across party lines vigorously opposed it, leading to its dismissal.
BJP’s Manoj Kotak said waste from one area cannot be dumped in another. “The stink from these dumping grounds is unbearable for residents. More garbage will only add to their woes”, he said. Sena corporator Ramesh Korgaonkar and Kishori Pednekar also opposed the proposal.
The administration said a permanent solution to get rid of the city’s waste needs to be found while the BMC is acquiring more land for Taloja dumping ground. When SVR Srinivas, additional municipal commissioner, said 3,000 metric tons of waste is recycled at Kanjurmarg bioreactor, Kotak said over 5,000 metric tons of waste is recycled at Kanjurmarg, stressing its capacity.
