Mumbai : Mumbai Fire Brigade is investigating the cause of fire at the Bata showroom and also a probe has been initiated to examine which fire safety rules were violated, following which, most likely a notice will be sent to the landlord of the premises if investigation report comes positive.
The fire officers had faced huge difficulties during fire-fighting operations at Bata showroom on Tuesday night as the staircases were filled with encroachments and there was no other way to reach the basement area where the fire had broken out. A lot of time was wasted owing to this and therefore to control the situation, JCB machines were brought and entry points were made to enter the basement area, informed a fire officer.
The fire was brought under control post midnight but the flames and smoke ensued till Wednesday afternoon. However, no injuries were reported as the fire had broken out during night time but the traffic was disrupted and motorists were inconvenienced.
Speaking on the matter, chief fire officer P S Rahangdale said, “The investigation is underway and we will come to a conclusion only after the probe is completed. We will look into all the aspects and check which fire safety rules were violated. Once the report is out and if it comes as positive, then a notice will be sent to the concerned person.”
