Mumbai: With the objective of cracking the Sheena Bora murder case, police officials have stated that they will be approaching the court for seeking permission to subject accused Indrani Mukerjea and her former husband, Sanjeev Khanna, to narco, brain-mapping and lie-detection tests. However, the police officials are yet to approach the court on this matter. In the wake of this, Indrani Mukerjea’s lawyer, Gunjan Mangla, informed that the police didn’t mention the possibility of a narco-analysis test in the court on Monday.
During a narco-test, the accused is questioned by forensic experts while in a semi-conscious state, but his/her consent is a must. The subject is administered sodium amytal or pentothal (truth serum) to relax his/her defences. The polygraph or lie-detector test involves ascertaining if the subject is telling the truth based on monitoring of the body’s response when questions regarding the crime are asked.
When asked, Gunjan Mangla said, “The police didn’t mention lie-detection tests in the court as they would first need to put up an application before the magistrate seeking permission. Along with the court’s permission, they would need Indrani and her relatives’ permission as well and without this they cannot go ahead with the lie-detection test. We will comment more on this issue only after the cops get a nod from the court for lie-detection tests.”
