Mumbai : With the recent spree of Nigerian nationals using matrimonial websites to dupe people , the Mumbai Police is planning to write to the websites to put in place stringent rules. “There have been nine reported cases of Nigerian nationals acting as NRIs and duping people. All the cases have happened in the last few weeks,” said Atulchandra Kulkarni, joint commissioner of police (Law and Order). “We are going to investigate whether the bank employees fell short in keeping tabs on online transactions.”

The police will also check bank policies which allowed foreign nationals to create bank accounts without submitting valid passports. The officials will also approach the Reserve Bank of India on ways to keep watch on such transactions. The police are following the money trail in the recent case to know where the money disappeared from a foreign bank account.
