VASHI: The Turbhe police caught a robber in Sanpada on July 7 just after he committed a robbery. And after trapping the criminal they have also managed to collectively recover property in gold and cash Rs 4,97,550 until now. On July 7, acting on a tip-off, the Turbhe police laid a trap in Sanpada’s Vayekanthbhumi area in Sector 5, where the accused, Gorakh Mhatre (28) was going to execute a robbery. After he was arrested, the police recovered Rs 30,700 in cash and silver jewellery from his house, which he had robbed from Shree Samarth Apartment. During his interrogation, he also confessed to have committed several other robberies in Navi Mumbai, Thane, Ratnagiri and Murbad. He revealed that he sold his loot to a 22-year-old jeweller, Laxman Kumavat in Koparkhairne. Kumavat was picked up on July 10 and gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 2,02,550, and Rs 2,95,000 in cash from the sale of the stolen jewellery were recovered from him.
