Mumbai : After the First Information Report (FIR) was registered by the police against the Chandivali’s 22-storey Lake Lucerne Society on Thursday night, the police have started their investigation.
YL Jadhav, senior inspector, Powai police station, said that they are looking into various aspects during the investigation process and will take appropriate action depending upon the outcome of their investigation.
The fire department had submitted its report to Powai police on Thursday, which pointed at major discrepancies on the part of the society.
During the investigation, the fire brigade officials had also checked upon the lapses on the part of the society which hindered their rescue operations. The fire claimed seven lives and injured 28 people.
According to the fire brigade’s report, the service ducts were not sealed, which resulted in the rapid spread of the fire. The absence of the sprinkler system, which could have been of great help in containing the fire, up to the 15th floor of the building too found mention in the report. Chief Fire Officer P S Rahangdale had said that several cars were parked in the designated open space around the building on both lanes of the internal road, creating hurdles for the fire tenders, and the fact that the staircase, refuge area, and the terrace were locked, hampered the rescue operation.
