Mumbai: Lokmanya Tilak Marg police arrested accused identified as Ashraf Umar Shaikh for kidnapping a 13-year-old boy and rescued the boy on March 10. Sangita Yadav, the complainant, had filed a missing complaint of her elder son Sonu, 13 with the LT Marg police station on January 8. According to the statement of the complainant on January 8 at 9 pm, Shaikh went to Sonu’s house and asked him to come with him.

As Shaikh was known to Sonu’s family, Sonu’s mother didn’t question them in detail about where they were going. When Sonu didn’t return home even after a couple of days, his mother Sangita approached LT Marg police station and filed a complaint.

While investigating the matter, police received a tip-off from an informer about the hide out of the accused. Police traced the location of the accused and rescued the boy and arrested Ashraf for kidnapping the boy. On interrogating, Shaikh confessed about the crime. A case has been registered against the accused under relevant section of the Indian Penal Code for kidnapping (363).
