Mumbai : Shopping plazas and malls should be persuaded to provide space to sell the products manufactured by rural artisans, Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao has said.
“There is a growing demand for products manufactured by rural artisans and women’s self help groups (SHGs) from all over the world. Women’s SHGs should tap the potential of e-commerce to meet this demand,” he said while speaking after inaugurating ‘Mahalaxmi Saras’, an exhibition- cum-sale of various products manufactured by women’s SHGs and rural artisans from across the country in Mumbai on Wednesday.
The Governor asked SHGs to take the help of experts in the field of packaging, marketing and branding to achieve higher targets of sales. He called upon the Rural Development department to help the self help groups in these areas.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, he has asked officials to explore the possibility of setting up a mall exclusively for women’s SHGs and to provide permanent exhibition place for the products manufactured by them at district headquarters.
Minister for Rural Development Pankaja Munde and Minister of State Deepak Kesarkar also spoke on the occasion.
The Governor and Chief Minister presented the Rajmata Jijau Swavlamban Puraskars to the best SHGs from the Konkan and Pune regions on this occasion.
The Mahalaxmi Saras exhibition, being held at Mhada Ground no. 1, opposite Lilawati Hospital, Bandra Reclamation, Bandra (W), Mumbai will remain open till January 12, 2015.
