Mumbai : Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, Vinod Tawde, on Tuesday said the inquiry committee probing the Rs 70,000 crore irrigation scam in the state has finally agreed to accept the evidence available with him and his party, BJP.
The inquiry committee has been formed under water expert Dr Madhav Chitale to probe the irrigation scam.
“I received a letter from the Chitale committee on Monday (asking me) to submit the evidence in connection with the irrigation scam. Accordingly, state party chief Devendra Fadnavis and I will hand over the documents available with us on October 18 or 19,” Tawde told reporters here.
Last month, Tawde had alleged that the Chitale committee was not accepting the evidence which he said was available with him.
Tawde had also written a letter to state advocate general Darius Khambatta asking him that if the government had submitted an affidavit in court that the committee probing the matter may accept evidence related to the scam from anybody, then why the Chitale committee was not accepting the evidence that he possessed.
“If the committee sincerely conducts an inquiry into the matter, at least
two ministers who were in-charge of the Irrigation Department, when the scam took place, would land in jail,” Tawde said. – PTI
