Mumbai: The peak hour traffic on arterial road at Dadar has now virtually hit a stone wall as vehicles move at snail’s pace on Veer Savarkar Marg. Already, truckloads of construction debris are being ferried across the city from the development work undertaken, but now, traffic police and the civic body are baffled, as trucks registered outside Mumbai are coming to the city to dump debris, that too at bus stops.
The situation has worsened as the debris from the construction sites are being dumped in the middle of the road, especially at the bus stops. People travelling on Veer Savarkar Marg were shocked to see debris piled up at a bus stop outside Keerti College, causing severe snarls.
Debri was also found at Jakadevi bus stop in Dadar, but after complaints it was cleared on Thursday. According to officials, trucks come from outside Mumbai and throw debris in city, especially at bus stops. “It is done primarily at night,” said a BMC official.
The BMC has sought the help of traffic police to identify the drivers or the vehicles. A BMC official said, “It is illegal to throw debris on roads. Traffic cops are looking into it. The phenomenon has been happening for a year now.”
