Gadchiroli: The director general of police, Maharashtra, Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, visited the site of the explosion in Gadchiroli on Thursday and issued a warning to the Naxals. “Our action plan is ready and we will respond to this attack,” said Jaiswal, addressing the media.
A day after 15 policemen and one driver from the Quick Response Team (QRT) were killed in a Naxal attack in Gadchiroli, Jaiswal had gone to assess the damage and boost the morale of the police.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Hansraj Ahir also visited the site along with Jaiswal. “Our morale will not be affected by this incident and we will continue our action against Naxals and strike with full power. We will not spare the perpetrators,” warned Jaiswal.
Jaiswal further claimed, “Naxals were allegedly planning to target the area on polling day (April 29), but they failed, so they attacked on Wednesday. I have worked as superintendent of police in Gadhchiroli earlier. However, the situation today is different, so we will have to change our strategy.”
The driver who lost his life in the attack would be accorded the status of a martyr, Jaiswal assured the bereaved family and the family would receive compensation from the government. On Thursday, all the major markets and commercial establishments in the district remained closed as a mark of respect to the martyrs and to express solidarity with their families.
