Mumbai: Tearing through the claims made by Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) and Shiv Sena government, regarding clean governance, the Leader of Opposition, Vijay Wadettiwar exposed a mobile purchase scam by Pankaja Munde, Minister for Women and Child Welfare. This scam is worth at least 50 crore, Wadettiwar alleged in the state Assembly.
He was speaking on the last week’s resolution moved by opposition parties on Monday. With this allegation, Pankaja Munde has been caught up yet again in another new corruption allegation. Earlier as per reports, she was embroiled in the Rs 206-crore rate contract scam, also known as the chikki scam. “ Is this your clean government? Is this your transparency?” Wadettiwar fired these series of questions to the government. He also demanded removal of Munde from the cabinet.
"The Women and Child welfare department purchased 1.20 Lakh mobile sets to distribute among Aanganwadi workers. The cost per mobile set was Rs.8,877 and total cost is more than 106 crore. The mobile bought were of ILUGA company. Why were such outdated mobiles purchased? What was the deal?” Wadettiwar asked. “When I searched for this set of mobile, I could manage to get a single set of ILUGA mobile for just Rs. 6,100 only. If we purchased 1.20 Lakh pieces, the cost per set should have been at least Rs. 4000. How did we pay more than double the cost? This clearly shows that there is at least 50 crore corruption in this purchase,” he alleged.
