Pravin Chedda has failed to make any kind of impact in civic body
Mumbai : Even though the Mumbai Congress had a plan in mind when they changed the leader of the opposition in the BMC from Devendra Amberkar to Pravin Chedda earlier this week, the change has had a feeble impact on the civic body. As Pravin Chedda gave his budget speech in the MCGM’s general body meeting on Friday, his first speech following his appointment as the leader of the opposition, he did not address any issues that have not been brought up by the opposition earlier.
Pravin Chedda said the civic body’s policies have been insensitive to Mumbaikars, who are being pushed out of the city, due to the rise in the cost of living in Mumbai. He said, “When Parel is selected to become a Smart area under the Smart City project, where most residents belong to the middle class, how can we expect the common man to afford living space?”
However, his party has consistently addressed this issue for the past six months.
The other issues that Chedda addressed include the lack of a solid waste management system in the city, lack of toilets, clean drinking water, affordable housing, traffic and pollution, and the bad condition of roads.
He said, “All of these problems exist in the city despite the fact that the civic body utilises only about 30 per cent of its budget. The rest of it can be used to upgrade amenities, but that does not happen.”
