Mumbai : In the wake of a spurt in cases of monsoon-related diseases, city health experts claim that citizens’ lackadaisical attitude towards hygiene is a major cause for concern. Doctors said that not cleaning water tanks and filtrations and not boiling water in residential households pose a huge threat to people’s health.
Doctors said that it is not only the BMC that is to be held responsible for tackling monsoon-related diseases, but citizens should also take the onus of maintaining cleanliness in their respective areas in order to keep diseases at bay. Dr Nitin Shah, a consultant pediatric-haemato oncologist at Hinduja Hospital, said, “Contamination of food and water is the major reason for a rise in the cases of gastroenteritis, loose motions and vomiting. In spite of being aware that junk food sold outside in this season can be harmful, people consume the same.”
