One killed, 10 injured in Kandivali cylinder blast

Mumbai: Two families from the Bihari Tekdi slum at Poisar in Kandivali woke up to a tragic Tuesday morning as an LPG cylinder in one household caught fire, leading to a blast in a second cylinder. One person died and 10 people from two families, the Mishra family and the Jha family, were injured in the twin cylinder blast that occurred between 6.15 am and 6.30 am on Tuesday. The fire brigade received a call at 6.30 am and it sent one fire engine and one senior officer to the spot, along with an ambulance.

All injured were rushed to Kandivali’s Shatabdi hospital between 7 am and 7.30 am. The deceased, who has been identified as Krushnakanth Jha (45), was declared dead on arrival. The patients were initially treated in the OPD section of the hospital and were then shifted to the burns department. All injured have been reported stable and are out of danger. One of the injured, Balakanth Jha (36) has been discharged.

An official from the BMC’s disaster management department said, “Had the blast happened a little earlier, the families would have been asleep and casualties would have been higher. In this case they got a chance to run out of their houses.”
