Mumbai : No buses of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will be scrapped henceforth as the corporation has decided to donate the used buses to schools in tribal area to be used as classrooms.
Transport minister Diwakar Raote said that the MSRTC will complete its social responsibility and transform the ST buses into classrooms.
Currently, the MSRTC sells its old buses in scrap adding to the coffers of the corporation. Now, the same buses will be donated to schools in tribal areas as a part of its social responsibility.
“When a bus is of no use and converted into scrap, we will give it in remote areas to be used as classroom for tribal students,” Raote said.
“The tyres will be removed from the bus, some facilities will be provided inside the bus to make it suitable to conduct a classroom and it will be given a look which does not make it look like scrap,” he said.
