One of the nurses at Savitribai Phule Maternity Home has claimed that an ambulance driver forced her to fill in an
application form for membership of a particular nurses’ union
Mumbai : Female nurses of Savitribai Phule Maternity Home in Bhandup have alleged that they are being sexually harassed by a group of men since December 2014 after they declined to join a particular nurses’ union.
Following this, Vidya Pathare, a nurse at the maternity home, approached Trushna Vishwasrao, leader of the house in BMC, fearing for her safety.
In a letter she wrote to the anti-sexual harassment committee in December 2014, Pathare accused an ambulance driver, Vishnu Gavas, of forcing her to fill in an application form for membership of a nurses’ union. When she refused to join the union, he hurled abuses at her, calling her unsavoury names.
One other member of the union allegedly threatened another nurse saying, “I know where you live, I also live there and I will take care of you when you travel home alone at night.”
Vishwasrao raised the issue in the standing committee of the civic body on Wednesday, demanding that the administration conduct an inquiry against the accused and book them before Saturday, since the Shiv Sena would otherwise look into the issue and deal with the accused in a manner they deem fit, she said.
