All city restaurants to display NOC issued by BMC on safety guidelines followed.
Mumbai : With the BMC cracking the whip, all restaurants in the city will have to display a ‘No Objection’ Certificate from the Fire Brigade, acknowledging that the restaurant is adhering to safety norms. The BMC initiated action against the city restaurants after a fire in City Kinara eatery in Kurla, in which 8 people perished. During the ensuing week after the mishap, the BMC checked 200 hotels and restaurants and sealed 50 eateries where the fire safety norms were found to be inadequate. The BMC also checked the restaurants and hotels for other irregularities – such as excess stock of gas cylinders, illegal construction, lack of proper license from the health department, etc.
After carrying out the inspection, the BMC is now issuing notices to the restaurants and hotels. On Friday, members of the restaurants association — AHAR – met civic chief Ajoy Mehta and gave an assurance that they will adhere to all BMC norms. However, to put such measures in place, the BMC would have to go slow and give some more time to the restaurant and hotels, AHAR pleaded. The commissioner rejected their demand. The restaurant owners also promised that they will display the NOC issued by the BMC at entrance of the hotel and give an assurance to the customer that the hotel is safe and that the eatery has obtained all permissions from the BMC. “From Monday all restaurants and hotels will put up the NOC at the entrance. We have already sent an advisory to all members,” said Adarsh Shetty, chairman of AHAR.
