Nothing new about food inflation: Pawar

Nothing new about food inflation: Pawar

Aurangabad : The union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar on Saturday took a dig at media for allegedly setting him up as a reason behind growing food prices and termed the price hike as a media created monster.

While addressing people at the inauguration of newly constructed building of Fishery Science College in Latur, the NCP president said that the production cost of agricultural commodities are inflating just as every other category of products have been increasing over the last few years. Moreover, the gap between demand and supply is widening.
According to Pawar, this issue is related to rural economics and should be solved through an economic perspective. He castigated media for holding him responsible every time they witness onion, cereal, and pulse prices going over the roof. He claimed that media seldom speaks about rising fuel prices.
Emphasising on his rapport with state farmers, he said that winning elections 14 times would not have been possible without the support of the farmers’ fraternity which he has been enjoying for last four decades. He said that he has always intended to work for farmers, is working and will continue the same even in future. Media’s portrayal of me as an anti-farmer leader will not budge me from my line of action.
Pawar dismissed the possibility of Land Sealing Act coming to force and said that farmers’ interest will continue to be at top of his party’s priority list.
