No Class 10 exam, CET for Class 11 admissions - Read big announcements by Maharashtra education minister Varsha Gaikwad

Maharashtra education minister Varsha Gaikwad held a press conference today wherein she announced that the state government will not hold the Class 10/ SSC exam and the internal assessment will be used for the same.

She also informed that the Class 10 students will have to take CET for admission to Class 11. The result of Class 10 will be declared in June.

How will be the internal assessment done?

The marks of Class 9 weightage: 50 per cent

Internal assessment weightage: 30 per cent

Oral and practical examinations weightage: 20 per cent.

According to this formula, the results of class 10 will be announced.

On Sunday, Varsha Gaikwad who attended the high level meeting chaired by the Union Ministers and state education ministers to discuss and finalise the date and format for conducting class 12 CBSE board exams, had asserted that providing safe environment for students amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is the state government's priority.

Speaking to ANI after the consultation chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Gaikwad had said, "In today's meet with CBSE, we discussed that providing a safe environment for students is our priority. We will tell the SC that last year was unfortunate for students." She further informed that Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will chair a meeting in the next two days to make a decision on the Class 10 and Class 12 examination. Accordingly, the decision was announced by Gaikwad today.

As India battles the second wave of the pandemic, many states across the country have decided to cancel and postpone the board examinations for classes 10 and 12. However, there is no confirmation on the dates of the Class 12 exam yet.
