Newly wed bride ends life: Dowry

Bhayandar :  Yet another innocent woman fallen prey to the greedy demands of dowry mongers. Sleuths of the Navghar police have arrested a 30-year-old man on charges of dowry harassment and abetting the suicide of his 29-year-old wife. According to the police, Pooja Chaturvedi (29) committed suicide by hanging herself to the ceiling of her apartment in the Cabin Road area of Bhayandar (east) on Tuesday night.

A native of Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, Pooja had married Vineet (30) in February 2015. In his complaint to the police, Pooja’s brother stated that his sister was constantly being harassed physically and mentally by her husband and in-laws for Rs.10 lakh dowry. Unable to bear the ordeal, Pooja took the extreme step by hanging herself to the ceiling fan of her apartment. “While Vineet was arrested and booked under section 498 ( A) and 306 of the IPC on Wednesday, his parents who are co-accused in the crime are yet to be arrested,” informed Senior PI A S Kurundkar.
