Mumbai : A six-metre-wide foot over bridge (FOB) 80 metres length with amenities such as escalators, staircase and ramps for easy flow of passenger traffic at Borivali railway station was inaugurated by Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhu on Monday. Following this, the Bhoomi Poojan of the proposed deck was also performed by the minister. The work of the deck, which is 10.5m wide and 305m long, will soon be undertaken.

Prabhu said the construction of this deck will interconnect all five FOBs and the skywalk at three locations. He said the basic idea is to provide more and better comforts to passengers.

Further, he said that all the 103 budgetary announcements made in the Railway Budget this year have been fulfilled and there are many other projects currently in the pipeline.

“We have selected 400 major stations across the country to be developed on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model that would have facilities such as double-decker entry on entry-exit and food courts like airports. Meanwhile, proposal for Mumbai Urban Transport Project-3 (MUTP-3), in which we are slated to invest a sum of Rs 10,000 crore and which would include elevated corridor on PPP model, has been sent to Niti Aayog for final approval,” Prabhu said.

Prabhu also said that the work on integrated transport system is under way and has directed to increase working hours of the railway employees in order to solve the peak hour problems during office hours.
