Neighbours stand by residents in distress

Mumbai : The owners of the legal houses in Campa Cola rallied behind those who were to be evicted on Tuesday following the SC order of demolition. As authorities marched ahead, a united front was formed and the residents opposed the move tooth and nail.

The occupants of the legal flats took every step to help their neighbours from demonstrating to guiding the BMC officials to the necessary flats. Irrespective of the consequences, they did it all.
The residents claimed their fears have increased but that will not deter them from protesting against the onslaught from the civic body. The protest was not limited for the day and the residents intend to do it even when the officials return for further procedure on Wednesday. Shabaz Nawab, a resident of the building, said, “We will fight till our last breath. This protest will go on Wednesday too. We won’t allow the authorities to break our houses for no mistake of ours.”
While the occupants of the illegal floors prepare to protest, their very neighbours are preparing to support them in every manner possible. Naresh Bagir, a resident of the second floor, said, “We are neighbors for the past 25 years, it’s our moral responsibility to support and stand by them.”
Though the residents are fighting, they are also worried about the impact that it will have on them and their children. Chanda Dain, a resident of Orchid Apartments, said, “I, being a patient of blood pressure, my children do not allow me to step out. Sitting in my flat we were all very scared. A light sound gave us the impression that the authorities are entering with the bulldozers to break our houses.”
