Need agricultural universities to strengthen economy, says Sharad Pawar at inauguration of varsity in Talsande

Former Agriculture Minister and Member of Parliament Sharad Pawar virtually inaugurated the DY Patil Agriculture and Technical University, Talsande in Kolhapur district at an event held on Thursday in Mumbai.

The university will offer multidisciplinary innovation and research programmes in the field of engineering, agriculture, management and commerce.

Sharad Pawar while speaking at the virtual inauguration said that agricultural universities are essential for strengthening the country's economy.

"If the agricultural growth and progress is evident, the economic situation will automatically improve. Such universities are essential to uplift and strengthen the core of the Indian economic status. New innovations and technological advancements in agriculture through research in such universities will massively help the sector," Pawar said.

The university will offer specialisation in agriculture courses with an emphasis on architecture, management and engineering programmes.

The university will begin its operations for the academic year 2021-22. The curriculum has been designed with a 50 per cent focus on pure education, 30 per cent on practical education and the remaining 20 per cent on experiential learning. Dr Sanjay Patil, president, DY Patil Group said, "The education provided in this university will focus both on theoretical and practical knowledge. The curriculum has been designed after considering all future career prospects for students."

The university will offer specialisation in agriculture courses with an emphasis on architecture, management and engineering programmes. Students will get a chance to gain industry experience while pursuing their academic courses. The main focus of the university will be to promote skill development.

The admission process for more than 40 courses at undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) level is underway at the university.
