Mumbai : NCP state unit president Sunil Tatkare has said that his party would strike an agitation of the government decides to collect toll tax on the Mumbai-Goa national highway (NH17).

Tatkare, who is on a tour of the Konkan region, spoke about the proposed toll tax on the Mumbai-Goa national highway and the agitation while addressing party workers at Kankavli in Sindhudurga district on Wednesday.

“If the government decided to collect toll on the road that passes through the Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurga districts of the Konkan region, people of Konkan won’t tolerate that and would fight out any such proposal on the road,” Tatkare said.

Tatkare also criticised cultural minister Vinod Tawde and the Shiv Sena, while addressing the party workers. He pointed out at the imbalance of power between the Shiv Sena and the BJP and said, “The erstwhile BJP-Shiv Sena government had its ‘remote’ at Matoshree. Now, the government does not pay heed to what Uddhav Thackeray says.”

“I was fortunate to be able to do some justice to the needs of Konkan as finance minister. We empowered the local leaders. But, they betrayed the party,” Tatkare said without naming the minister of state for rural development Dilip Kesarkar, who hails from the district.
