Mumbai: The Indian Navy has denied having served any eviction notice to a sailor, who alleged that he was asked to vacate his flat after his wife lodged a police complaint against another sailor for molesting her.

“This is factually incorrect. On the contrary, the lady and her husband have been repeatedly offered to continue to stay in the same house as they were living till now,” said a statement issued by the Navy last night.

“They have also been repeatedly counselled by their officers and full support for any requirement has been extended to the sailor and his wife,” it further said. The Naval sailor’s wife had a few days back accused another sailor of outraging her modesty and an FIR was lodged at Cuffe Parade Police Station on May 12. Police are investigating the case. Later, the sailor had accused Naval authorities of harassing him after his wife lodged the complaint.

Navy spokesperson Rahul Sinha said, “His professional conduct has been found unbecoming of a Naval officer after a thorough interrogation and process is underway to take disciplinary action against him.”
