Mumbai : Instead of 10 days, Ganesh mandals and its volunteers should assist police as ‘Police Mitra’ (Friend of Police) throughout the year as it will be great help and assistance to the police, said Praveen Dixit, Director General of Police. He was speaking at the award distribution programme of ‘Ganesh Darshan’ competition organised by Mumbai-based Marathi newspaper ‘Navshakti’ along with DD Sahyadri Vahini and OH Media at Sahitya Sangh Girgaon.
Editor of Navshakti, Prakash Kulkarni, underlined the fact that several Ganesh mandals in the city had donated huge amounts of money for drought-affected farmers in Marathwada and Vidharbha.
Out of 300 mandals, 18 were shortlisted for the awards. Parerawadi Mahila Ganesh Mandal (Sakinaka) and GD Ambekar Marg (Kalewadi) Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandal jointly won the first prize. Swapnakshay Mitra Mandal Andheri (W) won the second prize. Dixit appreciated the efforts of Navshakti. Four Ganesh mandals announced that the prize money would be donated to drought-affected farmers in the state.
