Navi Mumbai: A road accident claimed the life of a 46-year-old woman when the car she was travelling in collided with a stationary trailer near the Pushpaknagar Bridge in Panvel Taluka on Saturday evening.

The incident occurred on the lane heading towards JNPT, where an Eco car (MH 02 WA 7432), driven by 25-year-old Rakesh Ravindra Torskar from Mumbai, crashed into a trailer that was allegedly parked improperly in the middle of the road. The trailer, bearing registration number RJ 01 GC 1817, was reportedly driven by Shambhu Premchand Kumar (50).

Rakesh was returning to Mumbai from Kasar Kolwan with three family members when the accident took place. The impact of the crash was severe, causing the car to get lodged under the trailer. Reshma Ravindra Torskar (46), Rakesh’s mother, died instantly. Rakesh himself sustained injuries, while two other occupants — Gitesh Gopal Kulaye (32) and Rajendra Jadhav (20) — suffered minor to serious injuries.

According to the investigating officer from Panvel City Police, a formal FIR has been filed against the trailer driver, accusing him of negligence and reckless conduct.

The case has been registered under Section 289 (negligent conduct with machinery), Sections 125(A) and (B) (endangering life), Section 106(1) (causing death by negligence), and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act (dangerous driving).
