Heavy rains accompanied by gusty winds lashed Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai on Wednesday and Thursday. The rain intensity came down on Saturday with water receding in some flooded areas of the city.
In Navi Mumbai, as per the data shared by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation today, a total of 1890.88 mm rainfall was recorded from 8:30 AM on Friday to 8:30 AM on Saturday. Belapur received 22.20 mm rainfall while Nerul, Vashi, Khoparkhairne, and Airoli received 21.30, 23.20 mm, 36.30 mm, and 15.80 mm rain respectively.
The torrential rains lashed Navi Mumbai and adjourning areas have caused extensive damage to the DY Patil Stadium in Nerul. Sanjay Kumar, who is the Commissioner of Navi Mumbai Police, in a tweet, said, “Huge Damage to one of the iconic stadiums DY Patil stadium".
The heavy rains also caused damage at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT). As many as three cranes collapsed and fell in the harbour. However, nobody was injured in the incident.
