Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) in association with the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) is conducting an awareness workshop on July 14 in Vashi for citizens, shopkeepers, and plastic makers, schools, colleges, women's self-help groups and social organizations as well as semi-governmental organizations.
During the workshop, citizens will be informed about the law, penalties and alternate options for single-use plastics.
The Central Government banned single-use plastics on items ranging from straws to cigarette packets to combat worsening pollution in the country from July 1.
The ban on single-use plastic items includes straws, cutlery, earbuds, packaging films, plastic sticks for balloons, candy and ice cream, and cigarette packets, among other products.
Production of single-use plastics like dishes, bowls, and containers (for food packaging in hotels) all manufacturers, stockists, distributors, shopkeepers, e-commerce companies, street selling commercial establishments (malls, main market outlets/cinemas) Centers / Tourist Places / Schools / Colleges / Office Buildings / Hospitals and Private Institutions) as well as the general public are advised to strictly follow all the above rules.
The MPCB will confiscate the goods of violators including the imposition of environmental damages, closure of business establishments and appropriate action will be taken.
