For the second time, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation inoculated more than 40000 citizens above 18 years in a single day. The civic body carried out the mega vaccination drive on Monday at 101 centres across the city. The civic body has already vaccinated 10.41 lakhs, citizens, with the first dose while the total eligible population under NMMC is around 11 lakhs.
The civic body has planned to give at least one dose of COVID vaccination to every eligible citizen before the strike of a possible third wave of COVID 19. However, only 4.87 lakhs eligible citizens have taken both doses of COVID vaccines.
“The civic body is putting effort trying to protect the maximum citizens by administering vaccines before the possible third wave of COVID. In order to make it easier for citizens to get vaccinated near their homes and to disperse the crowds, a total of 101 centers were operational on September 27,” said a senior civic official. While the vaccinations were given between 7 am and 9 pm at Vashi, Nerul, Airoli, and Turbhe hospitals, the vaccination drive was conducted from 9 am to 5 pm at ESIS Hospital, Vashi, jumbo centres Vishnudas Bhave Natyagriha Vashi, 23 Primary Civic Health Centers, Groma Center at APMC, Grain Market and Vegetable Market, and Railway Colony health unit in Juinagar.
In addition, 8 vaccination centers were available in the Belapur ward, 12 in the Nerul ward, 4 in the Vashi ward, 7 in the Turbhe ward, 10 in the Koparkhairane ward, 10 in Ghansoli ward, 8 in Airoli ward and 3 in Digha ward.
“With the availability of an adequate number of vaccine doses, the civic body increased the number of immunization centers to protect as many citizens as possible through vaccination. Similarly, on September 8, the vaccination drive was conducted at 100 centres for the first dose of the Covishield vaccine for citizens between the ages of 18 and 44.
