The middle part of the Karanjade-Bhingadi bridge used by pedestrians and two-wheelers collapsed on Thursday afternoon. While no one was reported injured, the bridge was used to skip the traffic to reach Karanjade from Panvel. Officials from the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC), Gram Panchayat, Tata Power, and power transmission visited the bridge.

The cement concrete bridge was constructed many years ago to connect Karanjade Bhingari Sub Station on Gadhi River by Tata Power. However, over the period, the bridge became weak and unusable.

While talking to the media, Rameshwar Angre - Sarpanch, Karanjade Gram Panchayat said that he had written the concerned authority to repair the bridge. He said that the road at Uran Naka is always congested due to traffic at Uran Naka, so the citizens of Karanjade were using this bridge as an alternative route to go to the Panvel bus stand and railway station. “The power transmission company had suggested stopping the use of the bridge when he had demanded repair,” said Angre. He added that on Thursday afternoon, the middle part of the bridge suddenly collapsed. But no one was reported injured.
