The Panvel taluka police have booked a 37-year-old man, along with his mother and younger sister, for allegedly harassing his wife in Panvel.
According to the police, Manoj Jagtap and Pramodini, 31, had tied the knot in 2013 and have two sons now. However, a few years after the wedding Jagtap, his 56-year-old mother and 30-year-old sister began harassing her. The man was also demanding money from his wife's parents.
“The complainant was tolerating the harassments for a long time. However, her husband severely assaulted her a few days ago,” said a police official from Panvel Taluka police station. He added that his mother and younger sister also joined in the assault. “They were forcing her to leave in-laws' house and go back to her parent's house with one, leaving another,” said the official.
The woman later approached the police and lodged a complaint against her husband, his mother and sister. “Following a complaint from her, we registered a case under sections 498-A, 323, 540, 506, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). We are now investigating the case,” he added.
