Mumbai: The MMRDA which is in charge of the Naigoan rail overbridge (ROB) construction work, has been asked by the divisional engineer of Western Railways (WR) to stop work during monsoon. An MMRDA official said this was communicated in a letter sent on June 3. "Only the piers construction work, that will be built between the two tracks, is remaining. However, the railway authorities are of the view that if the digging work is carried out, then soil slippage may cause damage to the tracks. Considering this, MMRDA has been instructed to stall the work to avoid any danger," he added,
For the 1.3-kilometers-long ROB (including approach roads) the MMRDA has set the deadline of March 2020. The bridge is being constructed at a cost of Rs 85 crore by the authority. “Once the ROB is built it will provide direct connectivity from Naigaon east to west and vice versa. Also, it will provide connectivity to Vasai Goan, which is 2 km away. At present, people travelling through roadways have to go to Vasai Road railway station and take a left from there just to go from east to west and vice versa and to reach Vasai Goan, which comprises a stretch of 13km. The ROB will cut the distance and travel time,” the official added.
