Nagpur: In yet another instance depicting the dismal state of law and order in Nagpur, a sarpanch is alleged to have demanded sex from a woman for helping her get an Aadhaar card. The police said the accused, Shailesh Raut, is absconding.
The incident occurred in Kachurwahi of Ramtek taluka and the police have registered an offence for outraging the modesty of a woman. The woman in question had married for the second time and come to live in the village. She did not have an Aadhaar with her new name and address, nor was her name on her husband's ration card.
The woman had been doing the rounds of the gram panchayat and the sarpanch's office for the last few weeks. Raut kept delaying the task each time and, finally, he demanded sex from her. The woman recorded the entire conversation with the sarpanch on her cellphone and shared the audio clip with her family, who too were shocked. Her family then questioned Raut, who instead challenged them. The police have registered the woman's complaint and are on the lookout for Raut, who has been absconding ever since.
