Bhayandar : As a mark of protes against police detention of their colleague in Khed Municipal Council, the members of Maharashtra State Chief Officers Association will sport black bands on June 10. Chief Officer (CO) of Khed Municipal Council, Dadarao Atkore, was detained by local police in a case related to the collapse of an under-construction building which had claimed lives of three workers.

Three workers were killed when an under construction two-storey building had collapsed near Jagbudi river in Khed on February 17, 2013. In a controversial move, police detained Khed CO Atkore on June 8 under section 119. It is to be mentioned here that Khed civic administration claimed to have provided all relevant documents related to this case to the investigation officials.

Demanding a probe, the COs’ union, in its letter to higher-ups, has stated that such an unjustified and targeted move in the form of arrest of a CO without obtaining prior permission from authorities is bound to have a demoralising effect on officials. “The stir will be intensified if no action is taken to give justice to the wrongly implicated officer,” said union member Vilas Dhage. Meanwhile, Aktore has been remanded to police custody till June 12.
