But hastens to add that the OBC quota should remain intact

Mumbai : Shivsangram Sanghatana leader and legislator Vinayak Mete has insisted that he will continue with his demand for reservations for Marathas in education and in employment, till the government doesn’t come out with a concrete policy on it. He got support from none other than the Other Backward Caste leader Gopinath Munde, who is a BJP MP.

Till now the OBC leaders have been opposing reservations for Marathas and on Tuesday Munde made a surprising announcement saying, BJP would bring in reservations if voted to power. “We extend support to the Marathas and I promise, if we come to power they will get reservations in education and employment,” said Munde.

Munde however cautioned, “The OBC quota will remain intact and this reservation should be apart from it. I do agree that the Marathas are very powerful politically and they don’t need reservations in politics for it.” The other OBC leader from Nationalist Congress Party, a colleague of Mete, however has spoken against the Maratha reservations and has gotflak from within the NCP, a party dominated by Marathas.
