Mumbai: In a bid to attract attention, a 55-year-old woman, Sharda Arun Kamble, staged a suicide attempt shouting aloud that she will set herself ablaze. The woman said she wanted to meet Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The woman was caught by the security personnel deployed at the garden gate of Mantralaya and was sent to Marine Drive police station. This incident occurred on Friday evening.

The police said that she had just pulled off a stunt. “It was just a stunt since she had no kerosene with her. She just shouted and threatened to grab public attention,” said a police inspector at Marine Drive police station. As per the letter written by the Sharda, she had borrowed Rs two lakh through an agent from a money lender for her daughter’s marriage. Sharda added that Uday Raghu Shetty, the money lender, had taken three signed blank cheques as a guarantee from her. Sharda claimed that she paid Rs one lakh, but he asked to pay Rs 4.5 lakh more.

Further Sharda alleged, the agent and money lender were threatening her that they will put a higher amount on the cheque which would bounce and she could be jailed. Sharda alleged the duo deposited a cheque with an amount of Rs 15,50,000 and since she did not have such a huge amount in her account, the cheque got bounced.

The police inspector further said, the woman does not have any document with her corroborating her repayment. The matter is already in court, but for the time being, the matter has been transferred to Chembur police station as she resides in Chembur. The police will investigate the matter,” said the inspector.
