A day after receiving light rainfall, Mumbaikars on Tuesday woke up to a partly cloudy sky. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its 24-hour forecast has predicted the possibility of light rain or thundershowers.
Meanwhile, KS Hosalikar, head SID, Climate Research & Services, IMD Pune, said a severe weather warning has been sounded for the coming five days in Maharashtra.
"Severe weather warnings issued by IMD today for coming 5 days in Maharashtra. Thunderstorms associated with lightning, light to mod rains & gusty winds at isolated places in the districts," he tweeted.
Meanwhile, India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Santacruz observatory on Tuesday recorded the maximum temperature at 31.9 degrees Celsius, while the Colaba observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 34 degrees Celsius. The Santacruz observatory in the western suburbs recorded a minimum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius, while the Colaba observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 28.3 degrees Celsius.
On Monday, several parts of Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Palghar started witnessed moderate rainfall. Meanwhile, the IMD on Monday said that the monsoon is expected to arrive in Kerala on June 3 and heatwave conditions are not likely over the country this year due to cyclones.
"Southwest monsoon is expected to arrive in Kerala by June 3. Due to this, heavy rainfall is expected on June 2-3," RK Jenamani, Senior Scientist at IMD told ANI. The normal date for the onset of monsoon in Kerala is June 1.
