Mumbai: The hydraulic department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has completely restored the water supply in Mahalaxmi, Nagpada, Reay Road and Mumbai Central. The leakage in the pipeline has been fixed, said an official.
Notably, the water supply to parts of South Mumbai had been impacted due to the leakage in the 600 millimetre pipeline at Dr E Moses Road, Mahalaxmi in the last 5-6 days. The residents of Mahalaxmi and the adjacent areas had been facing the heat due to the water crisis.
The BMC’s hydraulic officials said they received a number of complaints about the leak. “We have plugged this leakage finally. It took longer, as the material required to fix the problem permanently was to be brought from Pune. Now, the water supply has been restored,” said the hydraulic department official.
He said Mahalaxmi and the surrounding areas had been receiving water with lower pressure, as the agency was cautious in releasing the water with full pressure. “We had to reduce the pressure to ensure the pipeline does not burst. Hence, the residents were getting lesser water. It was done as a precautionary step only,” he said.
