First-of-its-kind vaccination drive was conducted for the specially abled people of 18 years and above, staff and their parents at the Jai Vakeel Foundation in Cotton Green, Mumbai.

The drive was conducted by the Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre on Wednesday where they inoculated 500 people and their family members.

Kanta Masand , Chairperson, Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre said, a team of doctors and nurses briefed Jai Vakeel and answered all queries to make them comfortable before the vaccination rollout. After this, the nurses inoculated close to 500 people at the Jai Vakeel campus under the supervision of doctors.

“During the camp, the highly skilled team of nurses made sure that all Jai Vakeel students were handled with the utmost care and understanding. It was a great Day 1 and a pleasure to collaborate with Jai Vakeel Foundation for a noble cause. We endeavor through this and other efforts to continue our fight against Covid-19,” said Masand. However the next session by the hospital will be conducted on next week on Monday.

Archana Chandra, chief executive officer (CEO), Jaivakeel said, ‘Community is everything to us and there has never been a more important time to take care of ourselves and each other.

“We are extremely grateful to Jaslok Hospital because this is a segment that is not prioritised. Within the disabilities space, IDD seems to be the most invisible. They are one of the most marginalized and excluded groups, experiencing widespread violations of their rights,” she said.

Meanwhile, Jaslok hospital has conducted vaccination drive at the residential societies and corporate sectors. So far more than 14,000 beneficiaries have been inoculated in the last one week, which means on an average 2,000 are being administered. On a daily basis Jaslok Hospital is getting calls from the residential and corporate sectors to organise vaccination drive for their tenants and staff.
