Mumbai: Teachers involved in online assessment work of engineering examinations of Mumbai University (MU) have demanded for more time to complete the correction of papers.  Over 50,000 students are appearing for semester examinations which have begun from Wednesday. Teachers have been given a deadline of around 30 days to complete the online assessment. But teachers claim, they want more time as these papers are regarding technical courses which require additional time.

Recently, teachers staged a protest at the university Fort campus to demand extra time. Kartiki Jain, a teacher, said, “Answer scripts of engineering examinations have technical concepts which require detailed concentration and more time. We want more time to correct papers so that we do not make any errors.” Authorities of MU have informed teachers to complete assessment on priority basis.

A senior officer of MU said, “We have directed all teachers to complete assessment of engineering answer scripts on time. These courses are a priority as there are large number of students for this course.” The semester examinations of engineering course will go on for over a month. Merin Shabu, a student, said, “We have a lot of holidays in between two examinations. Our examinations are dragged over a month and we cannot do anything else during this period. We hope our assessment is done on time and we get our results without any delay.”
