A 15-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped on Monday night in Virar by two unidentified men who also tied the girl’s 16-year-old male friend to a mango tree behind a school. No complaints had been launched until Wednesday.

According to the police, the girl had stepped out of her house at 8 pm to meet her cousin and met her friend on the way, who is a class 10 student. The friend offered to drop her at the cousin’s house and as the two were walking past a school area, two unidentified men dragged them inside an isolated spot.

Renuka Bagde, deputy superintendent of police in Virar told HT that, “They raped the girl in front of the boy. They threatened them of dire consequences if they reported the incident to the police.”

After being threatened by the rapists, the girl and her friend decided to be quiet as the two were shocked. But, on Wednesday morning, the girl couldn’t handle it and broke down in front of her father after which a complaint was launched.

Bagde said, “We have registered a case under section 376(D) (gang rape), 323(causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and also sections 4, 6 of Pocso Act.” “The girl was sent for medical tests, which have confirmed rape. She is in a state of shock. We will take help of her friend to identify the accused,” she added.
