Mumbai: After playing their cricket match in the scorching heat, two teenage boys from Malad decided to take dip into the sea, on Sunday morning at Aksa Beach. Little did they realise the water level increased and they soon began to drown as they went too far. But thanks to the alert lifeguards who saw the duo drowning, the teenagers were immediately saved with the help of a rescue tube.
The boys were rushed to a civic-run hospital, where both are said to be in a stable condition. According to police sources, two boys, aged 15 and 17 years, both residents of Malvani area in Malad (W), had gone to play cricket near Aksa Beach at 7 in the morning.
The duo played till their heart’s content on the beach and then ventured into the water for a quick swim. The lifeguards posted near the Aksa beach stopped the boys from entering the water as it was high tide. However, ignoring the lifeguards instrctions, the teenage boys went for a swim.
Though the boys knew swimming. the boys went deep into the water, but as the water level began increasing, the boys started drowning. Learning about the incident, the lifeguards went to rescue the boys with a rescue tube and a boat. After 10 minutes, the boys were brought to the shore and were given Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) treatment.
One of the boys, aged 17 years, was rescued and declared safe, while the 15-year-old boy was rushed to the civic-run Shatabdi Hospital, as the water had reached the boy’s lungs. After the treatment, both boys were declared safe and are recuperating in the hospital. When The Free Press Journal tried contacting the boys’ parents, they refused to comment.
