Mumbai: Kalachowkie Police have arrested seven persons, including two jewellers for gold robbery at Chinchpokli. Police have also recovered 1.2 kilograms of gold ornaments worth Rs 35 lakh, which was looted from a jeweller. Ayub Alimmuddin Shaik alias Ayub ‘Chikna’, 47, a history-sheeter, was the mastermind of the robbery which took place on April 6 at Chinchpokli. On that day, Ashok Sakaria, 57, was returning home with jewellery worth Rs 35 lakh. Around 9.45pm, when he was near Chinchpokli bridge, he was attacked by four assailants, who attacked Sakaria with choppers, injured him and ran away with 1.2 kg of gold ornaments.

A few days later, Kalachowkie Police, while scanning the CCTV footage, were shocked to see Chikna, who had been released on bail five months ago. Once Chikna had been identified, police began zeroing in on his accomplices. Initially, they picked up Mohammad Sahajad Khan, 37, and Maruti Sonavane, 46, following it up with the arrest of Chikna and his aide Faiyaz Ikbal Shaikh, 28, and Rakesh Jaiswal, 30. Police also recovered two motorcycles used at the time of the crime and a chopper which was used to assault the jeweller.
