Mumbai: Two out of five men have been arrested for assaulting 40-year-old Altaf Shaikh with iron rods and bamboo sticks in Goregaon (West). The Goregaon police had registered attempt to murder case in connection with the incident which occurred inside a worshipping area in Amrut Nagar area of Goregaon on Friday.
Shaikh has been admitted to a private hospital in Jogeshwari and the police have recorded his statement. Police said Shaikh and the group had differences over monetary distribution. “Shaikh had been ostracised by locals around five years ago and now lives in Mira Road. On Friday, he had come to meet his mother who lives in Amrut Nagar. When Shaikh was going by the place of worship to meet his mother, prime suspect Nizamuddin called his accomplices and assaulted Shaikh. He and Nizamuddin used to work together at MMRDA,” police said.
