Mumbai: Two flights, one international and another domestic, which took off from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport returned to the airport shortly after their take off due to technical glitches. While a Dubai-bound SpiceJet flight returned shortly after taking off late on Wednesday night, a Delhi-bound GoAir flight returned after an hour on Thursday. On Wednesday night, a Dubai-bound SpiceJet flight SG13 which flew from Mumbai international airport, landed minutes after being airborne on Wednesday night.
The snag was corrected by the airline engineers and the plane resumed the journey to Dubai after a delay of four hours. A source from the airlines said nearly 120 passengers onboard the SpiceJet flight and were taken care of. They were served refreshments while the glitch was being repaired. A statement given by SpiceJet official read, “On January 9, 2019, flight SG-13 returned back to Mumbai due to a minor technical issue.
The aircraft made a normal landing. Reports of emergency landing are wrong and baseless. After checks, aircraft continued with its rotation and has landed at Dubai in normal course of business.” In a similar incident reported within 24 hours, a Delhi-bound GoAir flight G8 319, with168 passengers on board, made a safe emergency landing at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at 12.15 pm on Thursday.
An official from the airlines said, “When the aircraft was mid-air, one of its engines experienced high vibrations, forcing the pilot to seek the Air Traffic Control’s permission to return to Mumbai. Post the emergency landing, all passengers were immediately accommodated on to another aircraft for their journey to Delhi.”
