Thane: In a tragic incident, two school boys, while playing, accidentally fell into a rainwater-filled pit at an under-construction site meant for chawl rooms at Balyani village near Nandap road in Titwala on Monday afternoon and drowned.

The boys, identified as Mayank Sharma and Piyush Ojha, are both aged 11 and 7th standard students of LN Private English Medium School.

Both would even return home from school together. At around 2.30 pm, both left their homes to play at the construction site and drowned to death. Titwala Police has registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR).

On seeing the two in the pit, a passer-by alerted local residents who managed to pull them out, but by then both were motionless. They were rushed to Rukhmani Hospital where doctors declared them brought dead.

According to Titwala police sources, chawl construction work is being carried out by a builder and both boys live in the nearby area. An officer said that a probe is in process and if during investigation it is found that this happened due to someone's negligence, an FIR will be filed.
