In another case of imposter police tricking citizens into giving their jewellery in Andheri (E), a 31-year-old businessman lost his gold chain valued at ₹1.2 lakh by sleight of hand. He said in his complaint that two men, who posed as cops, approached him and asked him to remove his ornaments in light of the alarming rise in thefts, chain snatching in the area. The unidentified man said that there have been a number of incidents of chain snatching in the area and it was unsafe to wear heavy jewellery.

"He told me a while ago another man was robbed of his jewelry on knifepoint and asked me to remove the gold ornaments and keep it in my purse.
